Motor up or down at dock

Does it matter whether or not you keep the motor up or down at the dock? I keep my boat in the river and I have about 6 feet at dead low so depth is not a problem. Is there any reason to keep it up? Some of the boats at my marina keep them up and others keep them down.

Thanks,
Tom

If O/B trim up as TD said. If I/O, I would leave it down to minimize stress to the bellows.

I agree with fishmen 111. I/O should be down to minimize the sustained stretch on the bellows. It is not an issue on the outboards.

The only reason to tilt up, is an outboard where the drive unit completely clears the water, otherwise leave it down.
