My wife and I just sold our 26' Bayliner after 14 years of faithful service. We are looking to get something a little newer and would like a little bigger. We like to drop hook and camp a lot during the summer with our 5-year-old son.

I would like to stay with a boat that can be trailered on occasion. Also, would like to stay with a lighter boat with a single because fuel will probably be $5 bucks a gallon this summer at the dock. We were looking at a Bayliner 275, but then saw a 2001 2900 SCR locally with a 7.4 MPI. Can anyone give me a review on this boat? Fuel burn? Cruise speed at 3200RPM? Does anyone know why this boat gained 2000 lbs. from 2003 to 2004? Would I be better off looking at a 2003 with a 6.2L MPI? Any advice would be appreciated. Greg 425-233-4771 gregars@hotmail.com

well..can't tell you if the boat is trailerable or not..but I can tell you the 6.2ltr engine is a beast of an engine..lotsa torque down low where it's needed and will run right to the rev limiter...coupled with a b3 drive and it's almost like having twins to dock....I think the 2900 is going to be rather large for trailering....although the boat is wide...it gained all that weight from getting a larger beam...for my 6.2 ltr b3 engine/drive...I probably burn about 12-14 gph at about 4k rpm...so...I'd probably look into the 275 with that engine-drive combo...the 2900 will be way too heavy and large to tow..although they are extremely roomy...if your keeping it in a marina..then no problem...hope this helps...
