I have a 1996 150 mariner with the oil injection diconnected, last owner mixed his fuel and oil 30 to 1 .
Does this sound about right?

50/1 is right and what Mercuy recomends but I use 40/1. 30/1 want hurt your motor, just a little added smoke. Just my .02 worth.

No, crabshaw. The correct mix is 50:1, One pint TC-W3 outboard oil to 6 gallons 87 octane unleaded.

Ought to start smoking less.

You are probably way overdue for a decarb using oil at 30-1. What type of fuel tank do you have?

What do you mean by the fuel tank, the size or what the tank is made of. And what do I have to do to the carbs?

You don't have to do anything to the carburetors, crabshaw.

"Decarb" is short for decarbonizing your engine to "clean out" the cylinders.

I think GSS wants to suggest how to go about decarbonizing your engine. He needs to know the size and type of fuel tank you use to do so.

Its pretty easy to think that more oil is better but the reality is that a 30:1 mix is not good for your engine. It will decrease the amount of fuel the engine needs for cooling and cause your engine to run lean. The lack of cooling will damage your engine.

Extra lubricant might only be needed during break-in or in a highly modified engine.

The correct mix is 50:1 like's been said. Thats 2.6 ounces per gallon

Remove the oil pump, remove the pump gear, put the pump back. Disconnect the rotational sensor, disconnect the alarm module, remove all the hoses, remove the prmary and secondary oil tanks, plug the pressure port on the block. If your fuel pump has the oil check valve on top you need to change the diaphram if it is inline with the fuel line then just remove it and replace the hose with a single piece.

Don't forget to pre-mix your fuel.

He might have hi-jacked it but thats not a good idea. You need tha block off kit that has a "stem" on tha plug. There is a brass bushing in tha block that tha pinion gear rides on. It needs ta have pressure on it ta keep it from possibilty of workin' loose...................

I looked at that when the engine was tore down. Not likely to happen.
