Got my boat out today and she is all tuned up. Running good. I get about a 1/4 mile out and the temp shoots form 145-160 to 210-230 I shut it down. Got towed in. Took of the lower unit. Impeller is completly shot. I bought the outdrive from a mechanic and he told me he had just changed it but, This thing is rotted. So I had a spare impeller laying around. Problem is, I pulled the old one off and the key fell and bounced down a drain. So where do i get a new key? Who has them? I went to a local shop and they gave me one ..., But when I try and push the housing down It seems like it is just a hair to big.
Thanks for your help

Re: outdrive impeller key

if your talking about pushing the impeller housing down.....
its real tight.... the impeller is offset to the housing. thats the way it works. Make sure your turning the driveshaft clockwise as you push the housing down.

Re: outdrive impeller key

The key has nothing to do with the housing going down. The impeller yes, but not the housing.
Put the impeller down over the key, then push the housing down while turning the vertical shaft clockwise.

Re: outdrive impeller key

The keys are the same for outboards. I would be looking at the impeller. I've had several aftermarket impellers that were a bit troublesome to get on the key.

Yeah, put a little assembley lube or another thick grease behind that key and stick it to that flat spot. Then, with a screwedriver under the key and everthing lined up you should with a little effort and patience be able to make that impeller slide over the key.Hope that helps and it is a tight fit.

Re: outdrive impeller key

I have a strange feeling the guy gave you a key for a jet pump impeller. Looks a lot like a Merc impeller key. But is probably thicker.
