Ok so my machanic put my engine back in after a transom seal replacment. He had to cut off the security lock nut that the previous owner put on one of the outdrive nuts to keep people from stealing the outdrive. I guess. I didnt even know they made such things.

Any way the security key/wrench was lost so he had to cut it off and he did an excelent job, didnt even mess up a thread on the stud the drive nuts screw on.

Problem is I need 1 lousy nut now. Over where I store my boat there is a burned out cruser with 2 bravo 3 drives, I thought I already checked that but when I went to grab a nut off of it I see its a differant size and now Im not sure why I thought they were Bravo 3 drives, they might be Volvo penta's

Whats the nut size I need for a 93 Bravo one Drive? They look like the same ones on my Alpha Drive since the bell is the exact same. I need 1 nut to bolt my drive on. I dont want to just go without it. There are six bolts / studs for a reson.....

I believe that's a 7/16 - 20 thread lock nut. A lot of sites list that as part 21170 although I don't know what Merc's part number is.

7/16 -20 NF thread. Note, it's a plated brass nut, not SS.
A stainless steel nut will likely gall the threads and have to be cut off.
It's also the same nut for Alpha and Bravo, NOT Volvo. The Merc PN is 11-859116

I use stainless nylock nuts on my bravo 3 with no problems at all. Anyone have a problem with the stainless nuts? I believe oem they are chrome plated brass but some say also stainless. My local marina uses stainless and he says that he has never has a problem so I went w/stainless. (alot cheaper)

Learn something everyday, thanks Don. I have had the problem with a stainless nut on a stainless bolt. Had to cut it off, and clean the threads afterwards, was a real pain. Next time I will use brass and avoid the problem.

Thanx and have a great day,

Rob.
