1972 50 HP Evinrude

newbie needs help.

I cannot seem to raise the motor for travel on trailer. Seems what I beleive are the levers are all frozen, but I'm unsure which is the correct one. Can someone describe? Need to up pull motor to take to shop.

i have the same problem if my 71. have some one pull the tilt pin while you relieve wieght. the pin that goes thru the transom mount .

My 71 Johnson has a locking lever in front just below "handle" where steering connects. It rides in a vertical slot with a latching notch. This locks motor down if you need high rev reverse. Could this be your problem?

The little pointer kind of lever right in the center, just above the transom, is the release lever. Swing it one way to lock it down, swing it the other way to release for tilting. Is it stuck? Or is it loosy-goosy and does nothing? It is supposed to be linked to the claws that grab onto the tilt pin.

I got it and it was kind of a combination of all above. The lock/release is stuck in the middle of lock and release so who knows if it's locked or not. The pin in the transom mount is completely stuck - I mean whack with a hammer - see sparks stuck. Molaker has it right - in that it is controled by something under the steering area. That something would have been obvious had it not rusted off and been replaced by the previous owner with a simple nylon string of which I knew nothing.

Finally got it after getting out the ground and looking up and seeing the latch from underneath and pushing it with my hand and lifting motor at the same time.

A lockinig mechanism holds it up from the left hand side....also acts a release.

1 problem down, a slew more to come for sure...thanks.
