1979 merc 140 rotor button removal

i am going to replace dist. cap and rotor button on 1979 merc 140 no fire goint to plugs corroded real bad removed cap is there a trick to removing rotor button also never have seen plug wires tht screw into cap
to replace cap do you have to buy cap and wires.

The rotor is a permanent part of the shaft it's attached to.

You clean the cap with carb cleaner and Q-tips - It's NOT a car.

Replace the carbon brush (button?) ($5)

If you have no spark, the cap is VERY unlikely to be the problem - Troubleshoot via the manual. Don't have the manual? - SLOWLY put the tools doen and BUy the manual.

Yep, no fire to the plugs tells me the cap is fine. Do a diagnostic on it
