Convert long to short shaft on Force 150

Hi guys, first time here.

I had a question about my engine. I have an original Force 125 on a Bayliner Cobra, which's powerhead died. Hard to fix so its easier to just buy another engine. I found a force 150, which seems to be in good working condition. However, my original engine has a short 20" shaft, but on the new one a 25" one, which is way too long for me.

It seems like there's some sort of a removable spacer between the mid and lower sections. So, my question is if I take that piece out, will the engine still work w/ a shorter shaft; and is there also some insert in the shaft itself to shorten if. -- plus can I shorten everything else that's in that area; water line/shifting shaft etc... My original engine was a 1988 model; the new one is a 1990.

Thanks.

I wouldn't try to shorten it. Too expensive, IF you can find the correct driveshaft.
I would be shopping for a different motor. There are a lot of decent motors out there.
