We have a 1990's yamaha 175 outboard. The engine has no power out of the hole. The top end might be off as well, but THERE IS NO POWER OUT OF THE HOLE. It has no UMPH from a dead start. Takes about 5-10 seconds to get going. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Tried new fuel, but that is about it. We do not know much about engines. The engine is on a light 19 foot Baja and we had problems getting a skier out of the water.

Re: yamaha (no power out of the hole)
Two things come to mind immediately. The idle mixture is set too lean and/or you have too much prop pitch. Another thing is topping-off old gas with fresh gas. Not acceptable.

So "Looking Dorky" is no longer an excuse for not wearing one.
Often this is caused by a fuel restriction. Was it working before? If so, them you need to go through the fuel system from one end to the other to correct and keep from blowing the power head.
