hi all , new boat owner, i have this 40 yamaha and today it ran fine until i went about half throttle at which time it seemed like it was in neutrel. it worked fine at lower speeds any thoughts. i am unsure on year model i am heading out to grab the codes now...

Sounds like a spun rubber hub in your prop. It can be replaced. Prop rebuilders do that.

hey thanks since the prop is showing signs of wear (chipped and dinged) would it be a good idea to just replace it. and if so how do i determine the correct size and pitch..thanks again for the input

Pull it and look at the stamping in the hub if it is a Yamaha prop.
