I have checked the spark plugs and they were full of black gunk. I cleaned them and them checked them later. They were again filthy. What oil mix should I be running? And would this be the cause of power loss? What are some mechanical things I can do and not have to take it to the shop. If it is elctrical or whatever.

I would suggest that you find another repair shop to do the work for you.

I would also purchase a compression guage and do some testing yourself.

Original compression was around 150.

TMD

You may not be hitting on all cylinders. Do you have a good spark at each plug? Is the carb linkage opening the butterflies all the way?

1st ckeck that the tach is set to 4 cyl and not 6. Make sure you have good spark and that the timing is correct, 32 deg at WOT not idel. Also ckech fuel psi, 1.5 psi at idle and 3 at WOT.
