Re: does anybody know how too add a telltale pipe into a 1968 18hp evinrude?
In my outboard, the telltale comes off the exhaust housing, not the cylinder block or head. See if you can find a similar model in a year that has a telltale and copy the setup. Also, go to johnson website and search the parts diagrams for a model that has the telltale. You can then order the parts if still available.

Here is an example of the parts diagrams available at the Johnson site.
mouseboat, The info in this thread may give you some ideas, it deals with the same thing you're looking to do.

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=037675

According to the diagram for your motor, you have a water passage located at the top of the outer exhaust cover, you may need to pull the outer cover to locate the proper place to drill and tap.

The BRP site was working today so you can probably locate the diagram for your motor, if its not try the iShopMarine site.
