I am trying to replace a water pump on my 1977 70 hp evinrude outboard . I got a part number a long while back from this forum and purchased the pump. After fighting the stuck impellor I discovered the new impellor houseing does line up with bolt holes. Im guessing its the wrong part (#0432955).What is the correct part number?
The correct p/n is 0388351 which shows as being n/aThe correct housing p/n is 0386455, also n/aSierra doesn't have one that includes the housing either.I did find this kit, click here, at this link, web page.Good Luck
Well it seems the houseing does fit however the impellor (old one) uses a wedge that slips in a grove on the shaft and the new one uses a wedge that works different.what the deal? And it wont get a good fit.
I saved some of my old charts, the ones we used to hang on the walls to impress and assure customers that we knew what we were doing (grin). The chart pertaining to water pumps said this:1974-1978 70hp Evinrude/Johnson388351 superseded up to the following.Impeller Kit - 389143 = Superseded to 438579Housing - 390771 = Superseded to 436956There was no complete kit for that engine.
