    1991 90HP V4 Cylinder Compression Range

438556 Yes, the VRO port is plugged with epoxy and the new pump is over the pulse port.

    1991 90HP V4 Cylinder Compression Range

I changed out the gaskets and it didn't do a whole lot. The pistons and rings looked good. The rings weren't stuck or anything. When starting it from a cold start, I have to keep giving it shots of gas on the choke to keep it running until it gets hot. Then I noticed that the fuel in the...

    1991 90HP V4 Cylinder Compression Range

I'll remove the bypass covers tonight. I just did two of them on the starboard side and the pistons have the normal grooves and the rings look good. I have some gaskets in the pack I bought, so I will stick those in. Is there suppose to be oil sitting at the bottom of each bypass? Yes I use the...

    1991 90HP V4 Cylinder Compression Range

They range from 105-109psi. It's tough to start it, and it's surging. I replaced the crankcase seals, all the gaskets for exhaust, intake, heads, etc... Carbs have been cleaned multiple times with no resolve. It surges at every RPM too. It's also a whole new ignition system, since I ended up...

    1991 90HP V4 Cylinder Compression Range

Does anyone know the compression range for this motor?

    Low Ignition Voltage

An update on this: I replaced the starter because it was pretty **** to begin with. This got my cranking RPM’s up, to where one bank was firing. I swapped the coils to the other bank and the problem followed it. So I concluded the power pack (4th new one) was fine. I replaced the coils and it...

    Low Ignition Voltage

Thanks! I sent the stator back to cdi and it came back fine. So I went to the starter and replaced it. It’s much better but still no spark, so I left the battery on the charger last night. We’ll see what kind of spark I get today. If it’s no spark I’ll replace the battery and probably the...

    Low Ignition Voltage

How would that produce a no spark during cranking?

    Low Ignition Voltage

I did scope them with the powerhead off. The grooves are still there in the piston and the rings look free, although maybe hard to determine with a scope.

    Low Ignition Voltage

Hello everyone, I have a 1991 Evinrude 90HP V4 that is giving me some ignition problems. Backstory is the motor overheated and caused a whole bunch of headache. The heads and block were warped, the coils blew, the rectifier blew, the powerpack wasn’t working, and the stator resistance was out...

    Swelling Powerpack

How much voltage is acceptable on the black and yellow kill wire? I have 15mV on the wire with the key set to on and the engine turned off.

    Swelling Powerpack

No, it was broken. The block and heads warped from the overheat and I had them machined and are fine now. Compression is fine; I checked that, but wouldn’t be causing an ignition coil to blow. The power pack top is definitely swelled though. I just installed that back at the end of August and...

    Swelling Powerpack

Yea I replaced the stator and rectifier previous to the power pack. The engine overheated and blew the rectifier up, and the stator resistance was out of spec. Now I have blown coils when things get warmed up.

    Swelling Powerpack

What would cause a powerpack to swell? I have a 1991 90HP Evinrude.

    Cam follower roller

If anyone else finds this, I have gotten by with using electrical tape when my outer shell of the roller broke. Haven’t had issues while waiting for parts to show up.

84 Evinrude bogging full throttle surge

Just check the resistance on your stator. Should be 450-600ohms. Do it when the engine is cold, or the resistance reading will be incorrect. Might help to do it when it’s hot too, since yours happens when it’s under a specific load.

84 Evinrude bogging full throttle surge

Also my engine surged like that. It’s the misfire from ignition that is likely the problem, and if it looks like a wide range of ignition problems, I would say it’s your stator.

84 Evinrude bogging full throttle surge

Something still needs to produce the voltage. There’s likely a stator somewhere, and magnets inside your flywheel. What I had one my outboard was an idle problem, but fine while at mid throttle, and reduced power at WOT. It is pretty hard to diagnose without a Peak Voltage Meter, and you’ll...
