    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

Larson220, you nailed it. After looking closer at the endcaps I see "San Juan Engineering" stamped on it. I contacted Orca and they said a new unit is $1325! I know there are some other options around $600, but I'm going with the solder repair. I got it back today, all sealed up and...

    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

I've never cleaned it in the 10 years I've owned it and there was no debris in it when I removed the caps, so maybe not an issue for me.

    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

There is a drain plug on the right side in the picture but you can't see it since it's under the two hoses. I could also just drop a 100w bulb in the engine compartment.

    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

Larson220, Thanks for the info, I'll check into it. Last week I took it to a radiator repair shop and they said they could solder the copper endcaps in place and suggested replacing the stainless end cap bolts with a brass bolts and soldering them in place as well. I will probably try that...

    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

Thanks for all the info. I forgot to mention that I did sand all the paint off when I had the unit out of the boat. I also did take it to welders and radiator repair shops, but they said it could not be repaired. When the end caps pushed out from the freeze, it bent the brace inside where the...

    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

A couple of years ago Houston had a massive hard freeze and my boat ended up with damaged heat exchanger (end caps pushed outward bending center bolt mount inside) and cracked exhaust manifolds. I was not in the habit of winterizing and never had an issue before. It sits on a trailer at our...

    Larson Cabrio 274 Manual

I have all the manuals for my 2003 274 that came with it, and after seeing your post, I browsed through the main owners manual. It's mostly very high level stuff you already know, mooring, setting an anchor etc.. There are a couple of wiring diagrams, but the wiring is pretty simple anyway. As...

Water in Cabin, won't dry out

Thanks for the ideas. I forgot to mention I'm running the AC 24/7 to help pull some moisture out. I do store it bow up, but Its a step hull and Larson didn't put a automatic sump pump in the bow sump, so bow up doesn't help.

Water in Cabin, won't dry out

Sorry, the boat is an '03 Cabrio 274 with step hull.

Water in Cabin, won't dry out

My boat has been sitting on it's trailer in my yard, mostly covered, for a couple of years. At some point, water got into the cabin and under the floor. I pumped out all the water in the sump, which drained out most of the water from under the floor to the sump through a small hole in the sump...

    Cheap fuel cells on Ebay

Yes, it says Carter on my fuel cell. These are supposedly new, and not VP parts. Search Ebay for 21608511 and you will find two of them. I have sent messages to both sellers asking for more info on the manufacturer, warranty, quality, etc. We'll see if they respond.

    Cheap fuel cells on Ebay

I have a 2003 5.7GXi-D. The fuel cells I'm looking at on Ebay are listed as new, and have a 1 year warranty. I was able to take my fuel cell apart a couple of years ago when I thought I had a problem with it, but now it's frozen and you can see there's some corrosion around the joints. One...

    Cheap fuel cells on Ebay

Has anyone tried the fuel cells that are around 329-350 on Ebay? I'm sure they are Chinese knock offs, but with the VP part now close to $850, it's tempting. My fuel cell is so stuck together, I can't get it apart to clean it, so may be looking at a new one.

Water in Cylinders, switch to tall risers?

I let my 2003 5.7 GXi sit for about 4 months and after I started it recently, I had a knocking sound. It sounded like a stuck valve to me, so I did a compression test and found compression on #5 was low (90psi). I also see some rust on the threads of a few of the spark plugs, including #5, and...

Alternator not charging after pulley rust cleanup

I had a pulley rust issue that put putting black belt dust everywhere. To fix the issue, I removed the belt, cleaned up the alternator and PS pump pulleys with a wire brush on a drill, then repainted the pulleys in place. My alternator is no longer charging after the repair. There are two...

Need belt/pulley advice (VP 5.7 GXi)

Just when I thought I had everything sorted and could relax for a few months of trouble free boating, my 1 year old serpentine belt started throwing off black powder everywhere. There is some rust on the PS pulley, but there also may be an alignment problem. When I put a straight edge on the...

Power loss VP 5.7 Gi-D (with Video)

I noticed some sputtering last time I had the boat out a month or so ago, but it seemed to have full power. Yesterday I had it out again and it didn't have enough power to plane out. Also had some of the sputtering, but it idles fine, and seems normal at low speed. It's a 2003 Larson Cabrio...

    installing lowrance Elite 5 dsi

Re: installing lowrance Elite 5 dsi I just installed an Elite-7 HDI. I couldn't find a good place, so built a shelf out of a cheap cutting board. Doesn't block any gauges and is in just the right spot for viewing. I had an unused accessory switch on the dash, so just use it for power. I'm...

Fuel Gauge Issues (Both gauge and sender have been replaced)

Re: Fuel Gauge Issues (Both gauge and sender have been replaced) Here are a couple of shots showing the fuel gauge working properly while the boat is sitting on the trailer, and the sender unit and wiring. Haven't done any of the suggested wiring tests yet.
