2002 Johnson 90hp Metal Filings on Lower Unit Upper Plug

2002 Johnson 90hp Motor runs & shifts great. Been fishing all summer. I have concerns about the metal filings on the Upper magnetic drain/vent plug Lower drain plug has some, but not as much as the upper. Images are from when we first got the boat. Checked again the other day and some...

    2002 Johnson Bombardier 90hp Outboard

Potentially buying a fishing boat with a 2002 Johnson Bombardier 90hp Outboard. Looking for a second opinion since I have no experience with Bombardier outboards. Only experience is with SkiDoo snowmobiles that use Isoflex in the crank bearings. Are the outboards the same? If they are, I don't...

    40hp Johnson on 16ft SmokerCraft

We are considering picking up this 2000 16ft SmokerCraft with a 1998 40hp Johnson. Boat is in excellent shape considering it's age. The 40hp Johnson already has the oil injection deleted. So, runs pre-mix like our 25hp Evinrude on our current 16ft Crestliner. The SmokerCraft is way more...

    Pontoon Trailer Guides

Re: Pontoon Trailer Guides I see the local dock service barges using the full length guides. They're more user friendly than the post type. Pretty much just drive it up to the stoppers & pull it out.

ordering new wheels and tires....bolt patterns?

Re: ordering new wheels and tires....bolt patterns? You'll need to measure your existing bolt pattern circumference. Here's how. For instance, a 5 x 4 1/2 means 5 lug by 4 1/2" circumference. 4 & 6 lugs are measured center to center on the studs. The 5 bolts can be really confusing if...

Marine Grade Synthetic vs Automotive Grade Synthetic

Is there any Real difference between marine grade & automotive grade synthetic oil? I run Mobile 1 synthetic in my cars, trucks, etc. These are all obviously 4 strokes. Any reason Not to run Mobile 1 in our 2004 60hp Merc BigFoot 4 stroke? Just another 4 stroke, eh? I'm thinking the main...

    Primer Bulb not Pumping Fuel

Re: Primer Bulb not Pumping Fuel Excellent tip on checking the tank lines first. However, if the lines are not corrupt, the fuel pump could very well be the problem. Here's what was found..................... Not a pretty sight. Pump diaphragm was deteriorating rapidly. Impulse side...

    Primer Bulb not Pumping Fuel

96 Merc 60hp 3 cylinder. Primer bulb not pumping, so I replaced it. Still the same. It's not filling the carbs with fuel. Pulled the carb plugs to check....nothing. Engine will start, but sometimes pretty difficult. Even after it starts, and runs good, it will bog out, die on occasion, or...

    Avatars....can't upload FIXED 4/25

I deleted my avatar by accident. Now I can't seem to get a new one, or the same one for that matter, to work. I've re-sized and stayed within the pixel count. Tried a re-sized photobucket image as well. No go. What am I doing wrong?

    Dies if Battery Dies

2004 60hp Merc 4 Stroke Big Foot. The motor is not recharging the battery or supplying voltage to run the ignition system. Charge the battery and the motor runs great. Cruise around for a while, especially at night with the lights on, and the motor will eventually die. Battery is also dead...

    Transducer Repair

Re: Transducer Repair For what it's worth, here's how I repaired the transducer. Clean, rough up, a little JB Weld And all is good. If you do this, make sure the outside is all that's broke. Mine is shot on the inside. Getting a whole new locator today.

    Transducer Repair

I broke my transducer mounting leg.:facepalm:Not the metal bracket. The plastic leg molded on with the transducer. Clean break. Did not compromise the transducer. Just now am questioning how to re-attach. Would a two part epoxy work? Or is there other recommendations? Thanks.

Hub with L68149 both Inner & Outter?

We need a new 5 bolt idler hub. Hub is beyond repair. It's a greaser, not oil bath. Clincher is it has L68149 bearings both inner & outer. No problem finding the tapper spindle hubs with the L68149 on the inner. Drawing a blank on locating this hub. Have searched the forum, Iboats store...

1985 Johnson 40hp Oil Pump Setting

How many turns out for the Oil Pump setting on a 1985 40hp Johnson? The screws on the carbs to regulate the oil flow? Upon dis-assembly, one was about 3/4 out. The other about 1 1/4. Actually the plan is to bypass the oil pump and run premix. Just want the screws set to factory since just...

Gimble Bearing Greasing.....greasing a Non Greasable Gimble

1969 StarCraft 18ft BowRider 2.5ltr 120hp. I replaced the Gimble Bearing 2-3 years ago. There's no grease fitting on the gimble housing. I'd like to shoot/repack the bearing while I do the regular outdrive PM's. Is there a way to inject grease, into the gimble bearing, without having a...

1985 Johnson 40hp Oil Reservoir & Pump ByPass

Engine has External Oil reservoir by the transom. Two lines enter the engine. One for Oil. One for the Gas (separate tank) There appears to be one pump draws oil from one port and gas from the other. Then it sends the mix to the carbs. Can I cap off the oil line and still have it pump gas...

    Key Switch Replacement....Wire Placement Confusion

I'm having a though time figuring out what wire goes where. I thought this was going to be a slam dunk, but not so. The Sierra Switch has a slightly different layout and lettering. Here's the old switch schematic made by me. And here's from the Sierra Switch. If I knew what each...
