    2000 Merc Bellows / Boots

This is what happens when you let "Magilla the Gorilla" try to help you get the shift cable stub out of the bell housing. The brass shift cable had bonded to the housing and wouldn't budge so Karatoga and I tried using an easy out and a cheater bar. The results were unexpected. The pics below...

What happened to the Old Web Site?

Just wondering what happened to the old web site of about a year or two ago? I like the format, Halls of Wisdom, email notifications, etc. This new formats text colors leaves a lot to be desired and hard to read. Especially the "Red" colors. I'd rather have the old site back. Much easier to...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

I just went out in the "freezing cold" and removed the bolt assy. Here's a pic, minus the spring, cause I dropped it in the grass and will have to look for it tomorrow. Pretty sure the collar goes between the link and pilot arm and the spring would go under the pilot arm followed by a washer...

    transom leak

I recently went thru finding a leak and was told "your transom is the problem." Well it wasn't the transom leaking, it was the "Y" tube which had rotted thru on the bottom. With out a mirror laying under the Y tube it would have never been seen. Don't know if your y tube is same as mine but the...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Coldest day since 1981. 29 degrees and is 19 with the wind chill. I thought I was in Florida but maybe I had better check my map! Moved here from S.D. trying to escape freezing weather and it found me! Staying indoors today.

    Stern drive hydraulic steering question.

'82 Grady White hydraulic steering assembly question. Below you'll see couple of pics. One is of the bolt assembly that attaches to the pilot arm. I wasn't the one who took it apart and don't know the correct re-assembly of the bolt, collar, spring, washer and nut to the pilot arm from the...

Next is to torch the old motor mounts off and put the new ones on. The old ones are rusted beyond belief. They are almost one solid mass of metal. I'll need adjustable mounts when I start doing the gimbal assembly to the motor alignment.

Pretty sure I found something that will work. "Hope wifey doesn't look for it." Found this strainer in the kitchen and all I have to do is cut the screen out of the frame.

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Had some help this morning to try pre-fitting the gimbal plate to the gimbal assembly. Found that the lower portion, of the keyhole, needed some touch up grinding for exhaust area to fit properly. After grinding I reapplied resin to seal the wood. "Also", and I know I'm going to get some flack...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Probably wouldn't need to screw it to the transom. The break went right thru the middle of the two lower gimbal assembly stud holes. If I put large washers across the two holes it would grab top and bottom parts. The two aluminum bolts would hold at the bottom. The aluminum bolts have a low...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Been thinking about the gimbal plate and how to "work around" the broken piece. The bottom really has no support for the outdrive assembly. Seems it's purpose is to allow the "aluminum bolts" to pass thru the transom for the anode attachment. The four outdrive studs are what holds stress and...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Interesting day. Started sorting things out in the engine compartment and found a small problem. The two who removed the gimbal mounting plate didn't realize the bottom had broken off and didn't know that it wasn't supposed to be like that. Next week I'll take it to the welding shop and have it...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Silly question but I'll ask anyway. When installing the new scuppers, they didn't come with a rubber seal that goes between the scupper and transom. Which is better a rubber seal and sealer or just seal up the new scupper with 4200? I'm sure either way would work but "which" would be less prone...

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Why is the engine compartment lid so high and volumness? Does it really need all that space for the engine to "breath"? I was thinking, yes I know that's dangerous, about making a lower profile engine compartment cover that would allow tackle boxes and cooler stowage on top. Maybe half the...

Fiberglass Coatings paint. Polyurethane Enamel. I wonder if by tomorrow it will be hard enough to wet sand? Wonder also if I could take it to Home Depot and put a little tint in it to make it less so ":bright white?"

"It Happened!" Transom has to be replaced! (NOW W/PICS)

Yesterday I ran the length of the cap with resin. I also bought 1/8"x1" rubber seal that I will put up under the cap and when the rub rail is screwed back on it will seal everything.
