Anchor line chocks

I have an anchoring question. My boat has line chocks on either side of the bow. I assume they are to run the anchor line to either side, away from my combo navigation light?

Are they just for the line to run through, and not to be used to tie off? I'm guessing I still tie off to the center, anchor cleat?
