Re: 1953 Alumacraft project
I did decide to keep it. I'm going to remount after I get my lights wired. already finished installing the starter, solenoid and wired it. And it works! No more pulling the rope for me :)
I'd like to do a nice white/blue or white/red paint job. But I'm thinking...
Just got my electrical all mounted. Tomorrow I get a new battery and wire my test circuit a bit bigger!
It's been a journey with this thing. From props to steering to starters. All I have to do after wiring is put the window/dash back on. Clean and paint!
Come a long way from...
Got a 1973 18hp evinrude fastwin. I just installed the starter and mounted it. Nothings been energized yet. Thing is I tested the rip cord slowly and the fly wheel rotates clockwise. The starter also looks to rotate clockwise if I spin it up to meet the fly wheel by hand.
I'm unsure if...
Re: stumped
This is what I came up with. used 1/4" thick steel and bolted her down. Better than paying for a whole new mounting bracket or longer push pull rod.
I was thinking of installing a cotter/pin in this second photo where the rod connects. Just incase it does fail but I don't...
Re: stumped
Or I'm looking for a rod shaped like this one here I found on iboats here
or a bracket.. anyone know where I could purchase this? I'm thinking may be cheaper to make.
Re: stumped
Well, I've remeasured and with no fabrication right now I'm still 4 inches short of the motor. I got the wrong size push/pull rod with my steering kit. I was thinking of taking some 1/4" steel and making an adapter. Heat and twist it to 90 degrees on one side so it will mount to...
How would you remount this? These are the parts I got when I purchased the steering. Been awake too long and calling it a day.
I'm thinking some fabricating, cutting, bending or drilling is going to be in order. No problem to do I have the tools but if anyone can modify the pictures or tell...
I just want to make sure I get the right diagram in my head then on paper. I've already found a couple. I have a 1973 evinrude fastwin 18hp.
I found this thread here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=465872

Re: 18hp evingrude fastwin slipping?
ok thats what I did basically. I lined up the prop with the pin slid it on and wiggled till she set on it. Finger tightened the nut and put the pin in it. So I should be good.
Here is a pic of the old prop. Not only is it dinged up pretty good but you...
On the maiden voyage of my 1953 alumacraft and 72' 18hp fastwin this happened. Right around the 36 second mark I think it slips out of gear.
She ran flawlessy for about an hour then I slowed down and turned off to fish for a bit. Started right back up and pulling away this is what happened...
I've got a 1953 alumacraft FD and I was wondering if these holes serve a purpose or if I need to plug them. It looks like drain holes but they're right at the water level at the back of the transom. They're located at the bottom of this tray inside the boat though.
Heres some pics if that...
Not sure how long this motor has sat for. Me and my brother just got it running and he was being persistent. I knew it wouldn't idle on the first get up n go but hey whats family for.
On a side note. This is my first boat purchase ever. When I bought the boat all I got was a bill of sale...
Re: 1953 Alumacraft project
Finally got the pictures off of my phone. These are the roughest ones from when I first bought it. I've got the leaves and water out, stored the motor and covered her for the winter. I'll be posting some after pictures this spring with any luck. :) I've since...
