On my 2008 Yachtline I recently purchased used, I noticed when I flipped the boat over to clean the keel a black spooled shaped drain plug looking item rolled out of the boat. Looking at the insert it was easy to figure it was a self-bailing plug that should insert into the back of the boat...
I purchased an older Avanti with the Raymarine C70 Classic and Radar setup. I found out that the previous owner did not setup an external antenna for this unit and I need some advise please on how best setting up the wiring.
Do I use a NMEA port with the appropriate cable and connect directly...
Evening,
Got my new lower unit on and adjusted the shift cable per the combined instructions of many sources. However, on my lower shift cable in front of the barrel is a white plastic clip that is shown in the mercruiser manual in the photo below. It's called a "stop clip".
After adjusting to...
Evening,
I was running a 19" pitch prop and got a red line of 5400 RPMs (Not sustained) @ 40 mph. I would actually get to 40 around 5200, but the last 200 didn't make a difference. From what I can tell the 19" was a factory prop and it was marked 19" clearly.
I didn't have a spare prop so...
Evening all,
Just got back from taking out my 24ftr and about 1/2 mile from the dock I had a nasty knocking from the drive leg. It hit almost instantly and I shut it down right away. After cleaning my shorts out I did a low rpm test in forward. Unfortunately it was just as loud no matter if...
Ok,
How and with what do you reach the idle mixture screw under the fuel filter inlet side of the Rochester 4bbl carb? The fuel line comes out and almost completely blocks the access to this area. What kind of tricks are used to get to this to adjust idle? I sure don't want to take off the...
On the bumper trim that goes all the way around the hull what is the metal made out of? I thought it was stainless, but on closer inspection maybe galvanized metal? It's really dull and needs a good cleaning.
Thanks!
Evening,
I've read bits and pieces of information on the fuel delivery system on my 1989 Sea Ray 220 DA with 5.7L (350). However, it was flooding trying to start it up. Just for giggles I threw in a new carb kit and cleaned it out and all is well. Didn't find anything out of the ordinary...
I've been tinkering on my 89 Force 50 and did a single cylinder test by taking off the top plug wire and grounding it and running the motor (yes with water in a tank). It runs perfectly fine on the lower cylinder.
When I swap to running on the upper, it barely fires and I have to kick up the...
Morning,
I installed a new Quicksilver 10 3/8" x 12 1/2" propeller yesterday and gave
it a test drive. It ran perfect all afternoon. After heading back to the
dock on a 30 minute straight run at about 85% throttle ( 4800 rpms) we
stopped a couple of hundred yards short of the dock to...
Can this seal be replaced with out taking the LU apart/or removing the lower shift rod? If the rod must come out, can you unscrew it gently and replace seal and then drop it back in with out cracking open the LU?
Thanks!

I noticed there is a ton of slop on the shift arm linkage that connects the lower shift rod to the shift rod arm on my Force 50. The schematics shows a #24 bearing and I'm wondering if this is a nylon hat section that rides over the shifter shaft to keep the hole diameter tight or just a washer...

Was giving my Force 50 a good once over after another nice day out on the water and noticed that the water inlest screen on the lower unit had a little stick (toothpick sized) sticking out. I pulled it gently and the the entire side of the screen collapsed! Dry rotted! Darn! I looked at the...
Yesterday while out I heard a terrible grinding (milling sound) as we returned from a basically perfect day out on the water. I shut er' down quickly and fired up the kicker and brought it on in.
After I got home and inspected the prop I noticed aluminum fillings on the inner edge of the...
