i have a 1976 mercruiser 233hp with an alpha drive pushing a 24' crestliner. drive option calls for a 1.47:1 gear ratio. I have acquired a spare outdrive that may be a 1.50:1 gear ratio.
that being said: will I run into any noticeable differences using a slightly higher gear ratio?

His trim pump failed last fall so when he winterized it he opened screw on side of pump to let motor hang straight down.

Ihave been having trouble finding the cover cap that screws down over the fuel pump screen. It appears to be distorted enough to leak fuel and air making the motor run bad. I replaced the o ring and this didn't help. Can some one point me in the right direction...
Was out on my buddy's boat orthe first time. As we gradually climbed up on plane and ran a few secondsthe motor would start to buck and miss and then temp light and alarm would come on.
Let it idle a couple minutes and then it ran fine. Started proccess all over 4 or 5 times with same results...

Just got finnished re-installing motor--(1976 233hp merc 351w) started right up, idles nice but now oil press. gauge reads zero. It worked before the pull out. How do I trbl shoot the sending unit or the guage. No knocks that I can hear so I'm sure oil pump is workin. Please help!
I've got a 79' 80hp merc. that bobbles at 4500 rpms. Backed off to 4k it runs smooth. Last year the floats in carbs were somehow knocked out of adj. and were overflowing out the front of carbs. I slightly adjusted them to stop the overflow which worked.

I have an alpha 1 lower unit that neeeds a new water pump. Thought I would pressure test it and found a leak at the shift bushing. Air seems to be coming up the center of the bushing, but nowhere else.

Is there a way to pressure test an alpha 1 lower unit? I have an extra outdrive here but suspect it leaks somewhere. Oil not leaking out of lower but water getting in??
