New steering rotary NFB motor not centered

I replace my old stuck steering with a basic Teleflex NFB rotary system. The motor turns much farther in one direction than the other. A shorter drag link would solve it, I think, But can only assume the travel is different. Any help would be great.

    Finding Welch plugs

Hi folks, I rebuilt my carbs last year with kits. I did another cleaning recently and don't need all the parts but just the welch plugs. On my 1975 70Hp Johnson, it appears to have on each carb; (2) 3/8" plugs and (1) 7/16" plug. Anyone know of a good source to buy a bag of 10?

    Can a coil die young?

Good day Two years back I found a non running 1975 70 hp Johnson motor. I cleaned the carbs using the kits and replaced the Rectifier, coils and Power pack. To no surprise, she ran just fine. Late last summer, I found it would idle fine but would not power up. I used the boat very little after...

    intermittent miss, 1975 70 hp

Last year I replaced Power pack, Coils and Rectifier on a non running motor I bought. That did the trick and she started with ease. I re-conditioned the carbs at the same time though they looked clean. Fuel pump rebuilt as well along with all new fuel lines, fuel tank and supply primer hose...

Spark coming from Rectifyer, 1975 70 hp

Hello gents. Little back ground. Last year I bought a non working 1975 70 hp. I replaced the power pack, coils and rectifier. After that she fired right up. It did act like it had a miss hear and there but, most noticeable at higher RMPs. So today I see what is happening, there is an...

Tell tale location, 1975 70 hp

I have reviewed the FAQ area and saw a how to add a tell tale. The photo shows drilling at the top of the head. I was replacing the thermostat and can see back in there. The wall thickness is pretty thick in the area show to drill. So thick, that I wonder if there is a port of some sort. Anyone...

1975 70 Hp Johnson upper drive shaft O-ring

Hello gents. During my impeller change on my 70ESL75E, I had to remove the O-ring at the top of the drive shaft to get the impeller off. It was old and would not come off with out breaking. When I ordered the parts for the impeller there was an O-ring in the kit so I assumed it was the one for...

1975, 70 hp Johnson impeller change

Good day. I have the lower unit off and every thing looks good but will be changing out all the water pump parts I can. I did have some observations though. When I removed the pump housing and the base plate, there were no paper gaskets. When I ordered parts there were paper gaskets available...

1975 70 hp impeller change out

Hello, I bought a 1975 70 hp Johnson outboard last year. I changed out most of the ignition parts and she starts just fine....now. It ran fine with no temp issues. Getting the old 'toon to go back in the water and I thought I'd better change out the water pump impeller. The guy I bought it from...

My 'toon is listing and no water drains when I pull the plug??

I was out of town for a few weeks and had not got down to the dock to check things out. I noticed that the Right toon was sitting in the water pretty low. So I say, no problem, I'll take it to the lanch ramp, put her on the trailer and pull the plug to drain. Not so easy. As I was pulling it...

1975 70 HP Johnson Fuel issue?

Hello, First time poster. Long time looker. I just recently bought a 1975 70 hP, 70ESL 75E At the time of purchase, we could get it to start but only for a few seconds and with a bit of hand throtle 30 sec. Checked compression and all 3 were 125 psi. So me thinks, rebuild the carbs and fuel...
