I have a Mariner 25 HP. Tiller Manual Start. I have a pull choke lever but nothing attacked to it. Mechanic here told me to run some stiff wire from the pull choke to the connection at the butterfly choke on carb. Would this work?

I am thinking of going from tiller to console on my 25 hp mariner. My problem is throttle cables. I have a push pull system that is bicycle cable style. If I turn it into a console is there a certain way to run cables and buy these type of cables at a reason price?

1980 Mercury Mariner tiller.
The shaft goes down to a hard plastic circle that goes onto shaft to turn the throttle cables in motor. Cables in motor are fine. The handle turns fine but will not move the cables.
