Water in through throttle body/loss of power

Wouldn't a hydro-lock stop it dead? I have had this happen in the past. Actually from the afore-mentioned backfire due to bad ignition module. Also have seen this on several other occasions with other boats. Is it a possible "almost" hydro-lock? like a teaspoon more than full compression...

Water in through throttle body/loss of power

I'll have to look more closely at carb. Memory recalls TB unit on engine. Yes. I would call it a back fire, but was very minor vs the backfire when ignition module went bad a few years ago. I don't really think there are levels of back fire? Sure as hell hope it's not a bent valve. I...

Water in through throttle body/loss of power

Of course has to happen on Memorial Day weekend and with brand new non-boaters on board.... 2000 Rinker FV 270 5.7 throttle body 0L636997 Bravo 3 Heater hose punctured spraying water in engine bay. Lucky I caught it within a few minutes, dropped anchor and fixed. Easy. I think some of the...

Slow trim down plus sticks at halfway

I'm thinking motor itself. I am planning a disassembly of the valve body for fun. I suppose it could be a problem in there like a bad check or something. If the pump was worn or even leaking internally/cavitating, the motor should have still had much higher RPM.

Slow trim down plus sticks at halfway

SOLVED! I had to take a guess because boat was in storage. I guessed rams, but I was wrong. So after installing $1200 worth of Mercury trim cylinders, I ordered and installed a new pump assembly. Bingo. Could immediately tell the difference in motor speed just by sound. Trim works smoothly in...

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

UPDATE: Went out Saturday, everything seemed normal. Got out to open water, advanced throttle and everything normal. i even took a photo of my tach and speedo to show the iboats community. 4000 rpm. 30 MPH. Clockwork. About 10 seconds after this photo was taken, my tach jumped to 4600...

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Engine really sounded like it was revving that high. To the point I didn't want to leave it there long for further evaluation. I'll get a test tach on there soon. Trim sender has been off a bit, but I don't rely on it. And I was trimmed all the way down/in. Never even touched it. Had I...

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

I have been using Lucas 75-90 full synthetic gear oil for many years. Change it every year. Never had a problem in any of my boats. This lower is on it's 3rd year. Was a brand new factory Mercruiser unit.

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Bravo 3 does not have a replaceable hub prop. The props are directly splined to the shaft.

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Boat is kept in a wet slip. This change occurred while we were at anchor for the day. Bottom is clean and has ablative anti-fouling paint. I don't recall hitting anything on our way out. No vibration, but I did not trim drive all the way up and inspect props.

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

Bravo 3 is direct to shaft. No hub.

WOT RPM too high. Where is the slip?

2000 Rinker FV270 5.7 Mercruiser TBI Bravo 3 Background: for years she always runs exactly 30 mph (SOG GPS speed) at 4000 rpm trimmed full in/down with no tabs, half tank of gas and 2 people. (obviously slight difference with current +/-1 mph) First shakedown run each year with only myself in...

    Winterize

Could be as simple as a loose hose. Did you check in the engine compartment while it was running? Can you see what area water is leaking? Year? Engine?

Slow trim down plus sticks at halfway

Battery full. Excellent condition. (happens even when on shore power) All electrical connections clean and tight. I have always heard these pumps very rarely go bad, but then again, I have bad luck 🤦‍♂️

Slow trim down plus sticks at halfway

2000 Rinker 270FV 5.7 Mercruiser Bravo 3 Trim runs slower than normal on up stroke and extreme slow on down stroke. To the point, hydraulic motor will go into thermal protect and I have to wait until cool. Plus at around the halfway point in the stroke (both up and down), she almost stops and...
