Just painting the inside and replacing the wood was more work than I expected! It'll be interesting if I ever find a bowrider project boat, I may have to get a loan just to afford the beer and tequila I will need just to ease my frustrations…

So now that I have a big gaping hole in my boat seat to accommodate a pedestal seat mount, do I have to do anything to water-proof the hole before I attach the thing?
I removed the the transom I.D. plate and transom cap on my 12' tinny on order to replace the transom wood and in the process I have damage a few of the little stainless nail/rivet things. They are about 1" long or so, have a rounded head like a rivet and have a twist to them. Are they rivets or...
So, I was planning on lightly sanding, washing and spot-priming the inside of my tinny before I paint.
#1 is spot priming only the bare spots ok?
#2 is scotch brite ok to use for this purpose instead of sandpaper?
#3 if scotch brite is not ok, then what type of sandpaper should I use for this?

On my little 12' Aluminum Starcraft fishing boat my transom is 16 inches top to bottom. The length of my motor from the top of the inside of the mounting bracket to the cavitation plate (if that is what it's called) is 18".
