I have a 1968 Mercruiser 120hp, and I'm thinking of replacing it. I have a 1976 Renken with a 188hp mercruiser in it I'm parting out. Are the outdrives basically the same except for the gears? Do they use the same hole in the transom?

I'm having problems getting my mercruiser out of gear once its engauged. Its idleing fine shifter is adjusted corectly. It doesnot have a cutout switch. What year did mercury start useing it? My boat is a 75 with the 888.
What is the pros and cons of useing a 3 blade verses a 4 blade prop, giving everything else is equal. and the prop is correctly matched to the engine???
