    Thinking about moving up.

Considering 2 different Carolina Classics both are comparably equipped. Boat G is a 2003 straight shaft (no jack shaft) Gas with twin Volvo Penta 8.1 fwc motors with 650 hours boat was very rarely fished mostly used for cruising 750 HP. Boat D is a 2004 straight shaft (no jack shaft) Diesel with...

    Outdrive swap.

A buddy of mine bought a 2005 CC 28 with twin 230hp diesels coupled to jack shafts. Supposedly both motors and out drives were rebuilt and had less than 100 hours. Long story short both the broker and surveyor lied. Motors and outdrives were never touched. He is now looking at bad injectors and...

    Anyone know what this is?

If I were to repower my 5.7 with a 290 hp output with a 383 stroker say 350 hp, what should I expect? More speed at lower rpm? Improved fuel economy by running at lower rpm? How would torque effect the performance? Not sure what torque equates too. Thanks for the help.

    5.7 carbed vs 5.7 MPI

I have a 24 Albemarle Jackshaft CC. a year ago August I replaced my worn out 5.0 GI with the 5.7 Carbed motor. I am considering changing the motor to MPI. I am at 270 horsepower with the carb. I am turning Duoprop D4's. I burn about 16 gallons per hour at 3600 rpm's. I am cruising at 21 knots...

    Electric fuel shut off valves

I am at my wits end. I have two 59 gallon saddle tanks. I have been trying to get the tanks to draw evenly. I have added 3 additional feet of fuel line to the port tank. Because the stbd fuel line is 3 feet longer. Figuring that if I can make both runs the same that would help with the fuel...

    D5 vs D4

I have a 1999 Albemarle 24cc. The drive is a DP 290. The original power was a 5.0 little did I know the motor was bad. Never could get full rpm's. Went to D4 props. Then changed out the motor to a 5.7. Still running D4's. What is the opinion of staying with the D4's or going back to the D5's...

    Leaving outdrive up

Is it okay or detrimental to leave the out drive raised I have a VP 290 DP. I am asking because I keep getting growth on the drive and wheels. I have been using TriLux 33 (the brush on not the spray) on the out drive, trim tabs and both props. The tabs and drive do not get very bad because the...

Game Changer saga coming to the end

Pretty sure most of you know that for 3 years now I have had all sorts of motor issues with my boat. I will not go over all of the disappointments, lost sleep, monies spent and aggravation. It would take too many pages and there is so much I probably could not remember it all. Lets just say the...

    Intake manifold gasket leaking?

Have been dealing with this problem for what seems an eternity. Boat will run fine while cold after running for an hour or more it will bog down when accelerating. It will eventually keep losing rpm's. There is also a smell of raw fuel. It acts like the motor is loading up with fuel. The carb...

For those who changed from EFI to Carbuerator

I got rid of my EFI system a while back. Put on a Quadra Jet. Put in a HEI Distributor. I was still having issues with bogging. Kept changing plugs finding some were fouled with fuel. Finally realized that the EFI pressurizes the fuel to a fine mist. Where as the carb does not. I went to a...

    New Duo Prop Propellers

My Albemarle has a Duo Prop outdrive from 1999. The props have been reconditioned several times. I think that it is time to replace them (prop shop has agreed), I have D5 props. From what I can find out they are being replaced with "I" series props. These have a larger surface area and are...

    It lives

Finally after months of heart aches, blood, sweat, tears, curses that I resurrected from my Navy days. Rebuilt fuel system, distributor cap, coil, rotor, wires, plugs and more stuff that I don't remember. It's finally running. Don't misunderstand me the fuel system was original (1999) so a...

1999 VP carbed still having problems

At my wits end with this motor. Two years ago in August I bought a 1999 Albemarle with a Volvo Penta 5.0 GI. The boat had sat up for about 3 years. Compression was good, passed a leak down test. Fuel was pumped out and replaced. The high and low pressure pumps were changed. The VST was cleaned...

    Bogging - flooding sometimes starving

Still having issues I am now running 2 separators fuel is clean carb screen is clean. Was having a starvation problem at WOT. Changed out the fuel line (made it a little longer) think that has corrected the starvation at WOT. Started the boat up on Friday black smoke (first time in a long time...
