I have been wondering something about the different type / brands of poly resins. When I started my project I knew nothing about working with resins. Now that I am 75% complete I know just a little more than nothing but im getting there. :) My understanding was that for a poly resin to dry...
Im in the process of specing out the motor im building. The engine specs I have show production piston clearance should be .0030 - .0042
So my question is how to determine my clearance. I have measured the pistons and bore. Once I calculate a total clearance do I then take that measurement...
So since this could pertain to anyone rebuilding a boat I thought it best to post a new thread. How would one go about fixing the outside of the transom if it were outside of spec on an I/O.
I havent fully measured mine yet so im unsure if ill need to go down that road. I however was thinking...

Anyone have a preference as to the gasket brand when rebuilding. Seems they sell a marine version which is substantionally more expensive than a typical gasket kit. Anyone know if there is a difference or did they just add on the boat tax.
So im trying to decide what I should do to my 1994 genV 454. I have everything pulled apart and have been taking some measurements. All crank journals measure within spec and should be good to go with a light polish. Cam seems good to go as well.
My question is what to do with the block...
So it appears that my heads are in need of a rework. They are Gen 5 casting 10114156. I found a guy local who has what he claims are to be low mileage takeoff heads of the same casting number from warranty return vehicles. Supposedly the heads only need to be cleaned and can be used.
If...
So I checked the valves on my 454 and am showing somewhere between .003 - .004 play. It appears this is out of spec for this model so I will need to do some headwork. Anyone know where to get a reamer .015 oversized so I can ream and install new oversize valves?
Anyone ever tackled this before...
For whatever reason when I try to upload pics to the restoration thread I started it states that I am not authorized to make this post.
Is this just a glitch from the turn to new software?
Thanks

Re: 1994 Chaparral 230 rebuild thread
Okay, well you wanted pics.. I have pics..
You can see from the pics there are numerous fibers that have never been saturated with glass. I couldnt get a pic of me actually prying up the sheets so most pics are after it was removed and what fibers...
