3/4ply and 4 low pro casters should do the trick for a cheap creeper :)

That pic of the guages helped me pick the ones for my boat! :D Love the backlighting on em!

Hey mrdjflores,
The boat is really looking sweet. I've been looking at those gages too. I believe they are the Chesapeake line.
Sorry about the back. I have a creeper you can use. Might be a little to low for your boat.
Keep the pic's coming.

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

thanks Bob..
those gauges really appealed to me...very modern looking but still have a hint of classic design...

if everything goes as planned:
tuesday (taking day off of work)- light sand first coat of primer, apply second coat
Wednesday - sand 2nd coat of primer, wash down hull again after work
Thursday - wash down hull again, apply first coat of color
Friday - sand first coat of color, wash down hull, apply second coat of color
Saturday - light cleanup on trailer
Sunday - set boat back on trailer, if i can get some people over to help

Prime then with the etching primmer and use rustoleum. Like the tinny's do it.

I've been following your sewing thread... Wanted to join up here so I can see how the seats look when you put them in the boat. Great job!!!

Hey... Since your bell housing is already apart, you may as well change the lower shift cable...so, I wouldn't worry too much about you "having" to do it. For the price of the cable, and since you have so many other new parts into this, it's something I'd suggest to do anyway.

Also, I didn't see where you mentioned your method of painting the boat... are you doing the 'roll and tip' method? I'd love more details on exactly how you are doing this -- paint brushes, technique, etc.

As for your back, are you wearing any type of back brace when you are working on the boat? It may help if you aren't. Or even wear one when you aren't working on the boat to help your back muscles rest and recouperate. Another thing, when you are getting on and off of the boat, don't jump, climb all the way down... If you jump, when you land, it can jar your lower back..not good for it either.

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

well...painting boat has slowed due to some chilly weather....
2nd coat or primer is pretty much done, few touch ups here and there....

been doing some yard work...back has been feeling much better, a little sore from using a tiller in the front yard to plant new grass seed (about 800 square feet)

hopefully begin sanding the primer tomorrow...plan is to sand w/220 grit, then wet sand with 320 then 440 (something like that)

been painting it doing the 'roll and tip method', been going pretty good so far.

haven't really done anything inside the boat...don't like getting in it while it's up on blocks...doesn't feel safe

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

for the rolling, i'm using the 5" white (almost spongelike) rollers, and i bought a pack of those foam type brushes for tipping, i didn't 'tip' the primer, since i knew i was going to be sanding most of it off

mrdjflores,
Sounds like you are making some progress. I hope the back is feeling better. If nothing else, better living through chemistry. :D
Like SnowHunter stated we need some pic's.

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

okay...slight mishap with the sanding.....
the plan was:
start with the yellow dry 220, then move to black 300 wet followed by the black 400 wet

so i picked the sand paper and started with the 220 last night...
it was grueling sanding by hand...i was surprised how tough this primer is..

so i go out this morning and start sanding again, grabbed me a new sheet of 220 out of the pack...when i found out why the sanding has been so difficult....

my pack of 220, was filled with 400 grit!!!!!!!!!!!!
