91 johnson hard start 25hp

I have a 25hp johnson that has a hard time starting. I have to take the cover off and spray some intake cleaner to get it going. once it has warmed up it will fire up no problem. the carb was rebuit runs smooth just hard to get it warmed up/ cranked

any thoughts???

If it has a choke, my guess is the choke plate isn't closing all the way. If it has the primer, then the primer is not working right.

thanks for the advice. I think my motor has a primer because i don't see a butterfly choke plate. I will try pushing the key in for an eight count to see if that will take care of the problem.

if not how hard / expensive is the primer set up to fix or work on ??

The primer on my motor has a gray knob with a red cap both can turn. What position should these be in? Or how do I set it up? If I need to get a new primer can anyone help with witch part# will fit? It is a 1992 25hp johnson long tail I think. Thanks in advance for your help
