Does anyone jnow what can make a sterring column leak? It runs down the outside of the sterring column and I cant tell why or what is causing it. The back side of it behind the wheel appears fine and no leaks.

Also what kind of fluid normally goes in to add fluid to the system?

Thanks

Need a little more info to nail it - however sounds like you've got a seal going.

it sound like you have a hydrolic steering system, you need to determine what kind you have, then find a service manual. look for a name and model number under the dash.

Re: Sterring Leaking fluid

Where would the seal be located?

Again - depends on your specific system. More than likely an older Hynautic unit ( now Sea Star ). Not to fret - plenty of resources for parts, etc.
There are several Hynautic systems out there. On the back of the system ( the big aluminum block where your lines run in ) there will be an ID number stamped on it. Find it and we can go from there.
As far as the leak there are are two seals on the front and two or three on the rear of the steering shaft. They do sell kits for the DIYer but I am warning you it is not for the uninitiated.
