Im sure at 81 i really wont give a carp what the next owner says while rebuilding my tinny. I cant wait to be a noncaring grumpy old man chasing kids off my lawn and not caring what my starcrft transom looks like.

Hey fellas, made some progress on the rig this week.

The finishing touches on the transom...forming the through-hole plugs.
  1. Drill oversized holes and chamfer the edges.
  2. Fill with Epoxy/filler & sand flush once cured.
  3. Drill the final through-holes

A trick to finding the center of the splashwell drain (you can see the pencil outline from the rough sizing...to avoid placing a screw where a hole is supposed to be during lamination.):

Drill a pilot hole, then form the oversized hole using a hole saw & a drill guide; I drill from both sizes to avoid tear-out.

Chamfering the holes; this locks the plugs in place...important for motor-mounts.

tape the front-side, then fill the holes from the back-side with epoxy:

transferring the holes in the plug with a paddle bit:

finished product:

With the axle upgrade...and the 5-lug hubs, this hillbilly spare holder will no longer suffice

...and some new bling for the trailer:

That's some serious attention to detail on the through holes in the transom BF. Like those galvanized wheels.

Thanks Jim! It feels like the tide has turned a little...from rescue to restoration

Thanks Sig. I stopped watching the budgets (time & $$$) about a year ago :p

Thanks John! Jury is out on how this trailer will look; the plan is cold-galv (easy maintenance) however I'm not sure how this stuff weathers...I have a hunch after some exposure, it will look blotchy; I'll apply to the underside 1st and see how she does

Thanks Glen! Yeah man, I had to take a pic now before they get all grey & oxidized

I had to check and make sure I was on the right 18SS thread. I thought who's this guy who only put 4 rivets in that transom plate? That can't be Blu...??? Yeap. :faint2:

This plate is only for looks...after all of the MT spackle, my transom looks like Danny T's face! Plus I want to maintain '75 look.

They're 1/4" through bolts...there will be an additional 6 1/4" bolts (Knee-brace) as well as 4 1/2" bolts (motor mounts).

3M only around the bolt holes; Back-buttering something this large increases the risk for trapping water & corrosion; I'm not putting a rivet every 1.5" behind the transom wood.

Great looking trailer bling and ply & transom work.

I'll be very interested in how the cold galv holds up, I need to grind @a broken weld & hit a few places w. the spray too.

 I didn't want you guys thinkin' I've lost my rivet mojo after all of this glassin' :p

A buddy of mine picked-up a Sea Nymph with the classic busted ribs & leaky rivets. He'll experience 1st hand the wrath of the riveting hammer tomorrow!!

Looks great BF.

Nice bling for the trailer.

Thanks CJ!

Thanks jb!

I had rust under the old undercarriage that needed some treatment; i'll test a larger area on the underside and keep you guys posted.

MIL is in town to celebrate Mother's day...but I did manage to sneak-in some tin-time.

The nasty, crusty, rusty splashwell made an appearance for a dry-fit...this is to make the plugs for securing the splashwell to the transom wood.

A final coat of epoxy on the front-side...

and the glass cloth treatment for the back-side to prevent checking:

I just finished installing the splashwell drain fittings:

Zinc Chromate + primer to make sure the 5200 gets a good grab:

Last but not least, the 'ducer bracket (you may recall the concept):

Have a great w/e fellas!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :yo:

MIL didn't want a turn giving Rosie the Riveter a go?

Yeah, mine neither......

Progress looks great, and epoxy plugged the splashwell screws too, nice work!

WOW BF, even the splashwell screw holes sealed, that's attention to detail. Great job. If the P/O's of the boat had of taken even 1/10 the care you are your job would have been 100 times easier.
