Hope all that rivet and patch work is now all behind you.

Yeah trailer work, started on mine this weekend, it's a chore plain and simple.

That should be plenty of foam.

Keep moving forward and posting them pics! :thumb:

That is an offer you can refuse, BF.

It will be nice to get on with rebuilding instead of building. :D

Congrats on the 1-year mark... And those are some giant cat-fish, wow... :fish:

Looks like you're making some good progress.... Let the foaming begin....(and then it's down-hill and a lot more fun from there).

man....lots of progress since i last checked in. nice! and that is no beans about you could show the factory a thing or 2 about addressing weak spots in their hulls.

but then ya had to taunt me with that part about screaming drags and pool cues turning into ? marks. yer a cruel fellow......;)

i must be a real weirdo as i don't mind trailer work; the worst part is getting the boat off and on.

Not quite behind me...but we're neck-n-neck.

We're celebrating when I flip it & patch the Keel!

Not much for flamingo hunting. Can you do a journey-theme though? :p

Yes it will...I've been looking forward to smearin' resin for over a year now!

speaking of which...i ordered 2 gallons this very evening :D

Thanks Crankbait! This old tin deserves a smooooooth ride!

I suppose we'd both be considered weirdos Bruce...enjoy trailer work & get light headed whenever a fish hits so hard it moves the boat

Is this close enough to journey themed for ya?

There are some things I just have to draw the line on repairing a fiberglass boat, and doing a journey themed tinny.

She looks great BF and after seeing the paint you did on that motor I can't wait to see what you do to the hull.

Hey EZ, waaaay back in July, this was the paint/design scheme that I had in mind.

Its actually quite similar to Glen's recent project...except substitute Red/Black for White/Gold.

I'm considering painting the bottom aluminum color...like Agua's...so that chips/scratches don't show. With all of the patches & 5200...it will be a challenge to blend with buffing.

That'll work Sig! :thumb: ....when do you pick-it-up   :fish:

The paint labor are free. Its the shipping and handling that hurts. But wait theres more act fast and we will even add a couple of extra rivets at no charge.

Re: My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Dudes...Question. EDIT: Posted in the trailer section.

The weight of this rig is in a tricky spot.

1975 NADA guide: says #850 for the hull.

My '70Hp Rude is around #220. :thumb: However I may upgrade to a V4 eventually...putting me in the mid-3's.

I figure the trailer will weigh in the #400 range :noidea:

We're starting to approach the 1-ton mark factoring in gear, fuel, beer coolers, etc.

The trailer sticker says max load capacity of 2.5 tons --> this is somewhat irrelevant since I'm rebuilding but I think the DMV would want to know how much to GOUGE me for registration

Do you guys see any drawbacks of going with a 3500# axle?

I can always go with the 2x1500# springs to SOME suspension...2x1000# springs seem too light.

The trailer came with a 3500# axle & 5 leaf springs...and you know what my boat looked like

your thoughts?

Re: My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

i got it! go with a 1500 lb spring on one side and a 1000 on the other, that will nicely split the difference.

seriously, i see no problem going with the 3500# axle....that is based on the axle tube size and bearing diameters; you can spring it however you want. and i like overkill on rolling stock.

for the springs, are the 1000 and 1500 on the same spring centers, such that you could swap em out later if you want? or would it be feasible to install dual hanger points while you have trailer apart and are in a weldin mode? if i had to choose, i think i'd consider going with the 1000#.....i'd rather risk overwhelming the leaves a little than risk beating up your "extensively massaged" hull due to too-heavy springs. a new set of leaves are what, like $27 each at Northern?

I prefer rubber torsion axles for trailers, which provide damping and a truly independent trailer suspension, and many other benefits.

I agree with barato2, I would match the spring load to the MAXIMUM expected load of the boat and all the gear. Don't go as stiff as possible with the springs on a boat trailer, this just makes for much more abuse on the boat. So if you expect the maximum load on your trailer to be 2000# use two 1000# springs, it will be less jarring on the boat hull, and transom and trailer frame.

Same spring centers...the difference is 1 leaf.

sorry, accidental dual post

no apologies necessary :D

Guesses are OK on the weight, but what about this? Finish the boat and trailer except for the trailer suspension. Weigh it, boat/trailer/motor/typical load, then you know. Make whatever changes are needed to support the rig. You can do an axle/spring swap with the boat on the trailer.

If you got a title with the trailer, fees will be for the title weight numbers - No matter what you do.

just don't be this guy

All that one needs is a new bearing buddy. Or maybe a buddy to replace the axle and bearings cuz I have a feeling the axle is shot too. So that means call Axle, your bearing buddy.
