I am thinking about getting a trolling motor for the 20 foot pontoon boat I am rebuilding.

My questions are how much thrust, shaft length, mounts, foot control or remote?

I have a 55lb Minn Kota on my 24' Starcraft. It's the biggest 12V offered ( by MK ). I have it slightly offset so the dog can still see out the front when he's laying down.

I also have a depth finder with temp attached to the trolling motor.

i have a 18' suntracker with a 50hp merc,i put a detachable mount plate where the front gate is,i am using a 36lbs & it does a decent job on most lakes.i do have a all alumiunm deck & is fairley lite.a bigger 1 might be better but i mostley slow troll out on the lakes or move short distances.a river would require a lot more thrust & batterys ,i will be running all day with 2 batterys here shortley,if it ever quits raining,mike243

MinnKota 55PD V2 on mine. Works fine. Quick release plate as we travel alot and I move it inside so the travel cover doesn't develop wear spots.

I have a bass buggy with the same detachable plate setup. I am using a 55#, 52 inch shaft Minn Kota hand control. It moves the boat well and I am satisfied with it although I will probably trade it out for a foot unit in the future.

i normaly keep the shaft set tite & steer the boat with my steering wheel,no sharp turns but when your trolling you dont need to turn tite or you will drag the bottom & hang up if your not in deep water,mike243
