Hi guys,

I'm busy stripping down my engine for a rebuild (new used boat).

Has anyone used this stuff for the repaint? I have a raw water cooled Mercruiser 3.0 that I use in saltwater.

POR-15

Any thoughts on what is best to protect the engine? You can see it's current state!

Thanks

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I've never tried por15,...

I always use Rustoleum or another tractor enamel,...

If I boated in the brine, or when I have a rust situation, I spray it with Fluid Film,...

Por 15, cant beat it, that stuff is indistructable. I rebuilt a 350 (replacing a 305) 4 years ago. I gave it 2 coats of Por 15 matt finish followed by 2 full rattle cans of Gloss black engine enamel. So far not a trace of rust, and I boat exclusivly in salt water about 150 hours a year. Make sure you follow the directions to the letter for prep, it is fussy stuff but cant be beat when properly applied.

BTW wear gloves when painting with it, you have to wear it off your skin.

wear gloves with POR 15, the stuff can not be removed with anything other than time.

also, if spraying, have the appropriate mask on.

other than that, its nearly indistructable.

I like the sound of that, hopefully won't be spraying and I see they do a starter kit with marine degreaser etc to help get it applied properly.

Bondo that Fluid-Film stuff is interesting, I hadn't heard of it before. The lubrication aspect of it could be useful for the steering ram, throttle, gear assist cables etc and a general spray on the engine. I was looking at the conductivity numbers, ever used it to protect the alternator?

Nope, ain't sprayed the alternator yet,... use it on electrical connections though,....
Probably wanta keep it off the belts, 'n pulleys,...

I use it as a spray grease for Alota stuff,...

I only discovered it a few years ago,.... it's replaced a shelf full of sprays,...

Fluid film is great stuff,I use it on the motor mount pedistals so the adjustment nuts cant sieze, good for steering linkage or battery terminals, also use it on my Penn star drag reels,as Bondo says ,good for a lotta stuff.
