1976 7.5hp mercury no fire

My 7.5 mercury doesn't seem to have any spark. It's been sitting up for about a year.It was running up til then. I was having trouble with a toggle switch used as a kill switch before. Could this be my problem? Should I replace the toggle switch before I try anything else?

you should disconnect it and see if that is causing it. I would check the points also

On my 1969 Merc 7.5 I found that the wires were fraying inside the small wiring harness and causing the ignition to short out. So, I would check the wiring to see how things look.
