couplers blowing out

I just bought a 91 caravelle that has a omc 3.0 cobra. The problem I am having is I keep going through engine couplers. I think that the shaft that goes in it is actually going in at a angle and putting pressure on the coupler. There is a adjustment on the front engine mount that will tip the engine up or down, is there a certain degree that the engine has to be set at? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: couplers blowing out

You need to use an alignment bar to set the alignment of the engine coupler to the gimbal bearing and outdrive when installed.
When out of alignment, it will take out couplers.

You may have an OMC, but the same process is involved in Mercruiser and the Volvo SX style drives. Do a search in this forum for alignment and alignment bars and you will see it's a very need process.

Here is a thread with a couple of videos that will help you understand it.
