Cylinder compression is pretty bad on a pair of Johnson VRO 225s I have. between 60 and 90. They lack power and are very difficult to start when cold and can be a pain to keep running so I'm planning on either replacing the power heads or rebuilding them and the carbs. If I get replacement power heads I'm wondering if there are a year range of powerheads that would work?

1988-93 are open deck non finger port motors.....these years will swap.

Thanks! Will only a 225 of that year range work or will other horse sizes work?

Do new/reman power heads usually come with reed valves?

Reed valves generally do not cause problems.----Reed valves do not cause low compression in the cylinders !

200-225hp are same block only difference is the carbs. They only reason to replace reeds blocks is if damaged or rubber coating cracking and peeling.
