Honda BF130 25" shaft back to 20" ?

I have a BF130 25" shaft (bought 2nd hand) and it has an extension exactly 5" long bolted above the gear casing. Is it possible / simple to remove this & convert the leg to 20"?

The extension piece is easily removed when dropping the lower end, BUT there will be a 5" gap when you reassemble it. To answer your question, the only way you can change it to a 20" is to replace the entire lower unit with a 20" one or disassemble the lower unit and replace just the vertical drive shaft.

Thats what I suspected. Any idea on how pricey a shorter drive shaft is, and how bigger job it is to replace it?

Not a clue, but you can try the Boats.com website. Follow the prompts and plug in the info needed to get you to the area you want. I'd advise a manual if possible to pull the shaft and waterpump assembly to get to the bevel drive gear on the end which would have to be swapped over to the new shorter shaft along with applicable shims.

you will need
shorter drive shaft
shorter shift rod and
shorter water tube
bolts to replace the studs
drive shaft should be re shimmed into the housing
water tube is a pain in the but to change also

So there is a Honda BF130 20" shaft here locally that I would love to buy, how would it work for us to just trade parts so I could convert up to a 25"??

I have a Honda 115 (same frame as your 130) that I need to convert from a 20" to 25" (just the opposite of what you want to do). If you haven't done this yet, let me know - perhaps we can swap parts!
