I got a 1973 Silverline Grand Bahama the other day. It's in fairly decent shape give it's age, just needs freshened up. One area I'm concerned about sd part of the deck that is soft. The way I think the floor is constructed is that it was made in a mold and plywood was bonded to the underside, all of this going in before the cap was installed. I'm not sure how to go about repairing this, I don't want to pull the cap off. The deck comes up on the sides and go up under the gunnels. The camera cord is MIA but heres a pic of the deck of the same boat. Any thoughts on how to repair this would be great. I'll get some more pics uploaded tomorrow.

I'll start by admitting I'm no help whatsoever to your question -

But congrats on getting the Silverline. I think you mentioned you were planning on getting it earlier this summer.

I've been working towards it for a year and a half but it's worth it! (I think) It has the stringer drive like yours so we will see how that goes. The family is very excited about it as well so that's a plus! I'm checking all the electronics out first and will go from there. After that I will give it a thorough cleaning and take a bunch of core samples to see what I have to work with.

From the looks of the one picture the deck board should be held up by the stringers. A board cannot wrap up and around at the same time. It must use several pieces of wood to do this. It appears however to go under the cap at the sides and the rear. I like the OMC cobra but have never had a stringer so I wish you luck there. JA is just hurt he let his go he is so missing it.

I know exactly what you would do. There's alot of glass to cut up there though

I think that's his deep down secret, knowing if he would of kept the stringer he could of had the Islander completed already ;)

Under the fidge and captains chair is where the floor is soft.

It's going to be a long project as I have never done any glass work. Hopefully somebody will stop by and give me some insight on repairing the deck. My fiance is excited about the project as well and wants to help me on it so that's a plus. I'm thinking I will probably ditch the OMC and transplant a Merc 5.7 with Alpha One Gen II.

It's 22'. Guess I should have mentioned that in the first place :D

Yeah I don't want to try to split it. I'll head over to your thread right now and check it out thanks!

Glad you got her home, BN. What is the beam. She looks big and heavy. I like the below deck engine room and large cabin. Glad you got something to replace the SC. Good luck and I'll keep looking in - You're still a Tin-Hat in your heart buddy.

I'm still keeping my eye out for another Starcraft. I've been working towards getting this one for about a year and a half. That was before I knew about Starcrafts. It should be an interesting project for sure.

I would like to keep the stringer to stay original but what's the parts availability gonna be in 10 years? I don't want to dump a bunch of money into it now and have to swap it out later. The transom needs replaced anyway so I figure I'll just take care of it all at once.

The transom is soft around the outdrive hole. It will get replaced and more than likely filled in for a merc. The bunks are pretty sad. The foam is in good shape so I will probably just recover in vinyl. I guess what I meant by freshen up is a total rebuild :D. The floor in the cabin feels solid but I'll know more once I pull the carpet up. The deck outside the cabin will need replaced also once I figure out how to go about doing it.
