attached in a thermal image of my alternator. I have a brand new belt on it (crossed psrt number with oem). I also tool the belt off to turn the alt by hand and it feels smooth also no weird noises. Yet no matter what i do it will start burning the belt over idle. Its putting out 13.8 watts and when i checked the amps it was charging at 50 amps. The belt also is not loose.

Think you meant 13.8 volts and if it's putting out 50 amps it would get hot. Must be a weak battery.

Nice pic!

50 Amps is probably full fielded. Agree, check battery or corroded connections.

I also suspect a battery issue causing the alternator to go into full output mode. I suggest that you pull the battery/ batteries and have them load tested at a trusted shop. When removing the battery clean the connections on the battery terminals and the cable ends.

Yes volts i meant. The batteries are reslly strong theyre deepcycle and can have my lights on for days (literally) without killing them. One thing i thought of is that i removed my battery isolator…

so there was a loose connection on battery switch. Now it is only running 1 amp but the orange wire is still almost melting. Doesn’t make any sense

Have you checked the Electrolyte Level in the Batteries lately?
