Weeds and jets

Before we had our current outboard boat, we had one of those Merc sport jets, and man, did it suck up weeds like a hoover. Being more of a boat, it really was a pain to clear the weeds out, couldn't really get back on it if you jumped in and the stern was too long to reach past and get to the grate. Had to get it back onto the trailer and pull the weeds out of the grate. I don't know if we just live where lakes have a crap ton of weeds, or just bad luck, but that was one of the reasons we sold it. Sucked up some weeds probably 3 miles up river from the launch, and that was a long, slow ride back, wondering if the engine was overheating the whole time. Didn't have clean out ports like a newer boat, so it was quite the pain.
