Unusual inboard drive-What is it?

Found this boat on craigslist. It appears to have a cv joint and hydraulics to trim and or steer an inboard engine. I have never seen anything like it and seems like the picture is missing some important details because I don't see it working correctly the way it appears. Any idea what it is and how it operates?
Thanks!

I don't remember many of the particulars, but those drives were used on big HP (750-1000+) offshore boats. The idea was to be able to maintain the ability to trim while keeeping a lot of the prop out of the water for reduced drag.

Thinking it might have been a Don Aronow design?

It’s a surface drive. Used often on power boats of a serious type.

My bet is that drive replaced a single engine inboard setup and was one of the bigger reasons that project was never completed.
