SX-A drive stuck in down position with quite possibly dead trim motor. How can I get the drive lifted -and secured- so it can be trailered? Thanks

I have a bump starter I keep in my boat that I have used for just such an occasion, although usually it’s for other boaters since I keep the spare parts for mine onboard. However what you can do is jump 12v + to the blue (up) or green (down) to get by. My solution requires the culprit to be a bad relay or solenoid (which you should just keep a spare or two onboard anyways), if the trim motor is shot then disconnecting the rams and a ratchet strap is the only option.

I thought there is a manual release screw in the pump housing - for just such a scenario. Granted you have to manually lift the sterndrive and support it with rope, but the hydraulics have a bypass.

Disconnect the rams and use a ratchet strap. Did this on a Mercruiser Alpha 1.
