Considering buying new 18' Cape Horn CC w/ J150 carb. Should I start with J/E oil for break-in or go directly to Pennzoil 100% synthetic as a steady diet. Want to do right by the new motor as Pennzoil Syn. is only about $3.00 more per gal. than J/E oil at Wally World. Appreciate any knowledge to go by.
Thanks in advance.
Jim
:)

My answer is the J/E stuff. If you have an oil related failure, there are no doubts.

Any oil that meets your outboard's specification is what you want. What brand and what you pay is up to you. :)

Don't break in on synthetic, JKW. Lubes too well to seat rings, etc. well.

Break in on any good TC-W3 oil, then switch to whatever you choose, if you choose.

The FAQ article on oil selection should help you choose.

Good luck. :)
