Re: stringers

I think you can repair just the affected area by cutting out the old and replace with new, however you will need to make 12 to 1 scarf joints in the wood to join the two pieces together... These links might help you understand scarf joints....

http://www.glen-l.com/supplies/pxman-apscarf.html

http://www.unclejohns.com/skiff/scarf.htm

http://www.boatkits.com/boat/scarf.htm

This book might be a little helpful...It covers many topics from paint to major structural repairs...

http://www.boatersworld.com/webapp/...03&topCategory=249085&cat1=342102&cat2=342118

Re: stringers

scarfs are hard enuff to make on two pieces of wood that are in your hand,, let alone one piece still in the boat...

they're are other acceptible joints that can be easier used on wood still in the boat..

like scabbin' [ sandwichin'] wood on both sides of stringer 2 foot long.. a foot on either side of joint ..thick epoxy them very well .. saran wrap & clamp well but not tightly.. DO NOT squeeze out the epoxy.. just snug...

but read all you can .. and get more opinions..

but the scarf joint bein' the best ,,tho..
