scarfs are hard enuff to make on two pieces of wood that are in your hand,, let alone one piece still in the boat...<br /><br />they're are other acceptible joints that can be easier used on wood still in the boat.. <br /><br />like scabbin' [ sandwichin'] wood on both sides of stringer 2 foot long.. a foot on either side of joint ..thick epoxy them very well .. saran wrap & clamp well but not tightly.. DO NOT squeeze out the epoxy.. just snug...<br /><br />but read all you can .. and get more opinions..<br /><br />but the scarf joint bein' the best ,,tho..
