2004 SeaRay 185 Sport, 4.3L 190 hp, Alpha 1 1:81 ratio, dry weight per SR site, 2650, 450 lbs people, 26 gals gas and stuff for the day, make it 3300 lbs approx, stock Merc prop 14X23 wot 5100 rpm 49 mph, wanted to increase speed and drop rpm slightly, ordered Turninpoint Hustler 14 1/4X23, performed great until wot, 4400 rpm 41 mph, called TP, they said too much cup for my set up, TP swapped props now have 14 1/4X21 with weight at about 3450, extra person, wot 5000 rpm, 46 mph. Do you think the Solas Amita 14.2X23 make enough difference to justfy purchase at the current sale price on iboats?

Wow thats a bit of a surprise most applications I've seen the Turning point
works well on a same pitch basis. A 700 rpm drop thats something. Is your speed by gps?A speedo can be off 10% or more either way.
Just throwing ideas out how about adding a little cup to the original Merc. prop?I've seen good results there. And its obvious that prop seems to do it.
A little cup would get the rpm down a little and might generate a little more speed..Isn't the 4.3 supposed to be around 4,800?

I was surprised also with the drop but the people a TP said that the cup was real aggressive and not many 4.3 would turn it. The speed is gps and yes the wot for 4.3 is 4800. I tried to put eveything in the op but missed that. I had thought about adding a little more cup to the original prop, just need to find a good place to do the work. I am not sure the place in Savannah could do that. The last work I had them do was fix the skeg that hit something underwater and broke, had to fill in with Marine Tex, sand and paint so it would look good.

Yeh, Be sure they do this routinely.
You might ask at the marinas or at the ramp.

Yea, this to me will be a fine tuning job so I want the finish work to be good for sure. I will check with some people around to see who they use. Thanks for your response, you verified what I was already thinking.
