My new boat (well, new to me) has the transom loops mounted fairly low - only about 6" above waterline with 4 people in the boat. This causes a lot of rope dragging when I pull tubers.
I understand that a tripod is not safe for pulling tubes, so I'd like to mount new hooks up higher. My boat is a '98 Sea Ray 175 with an outboard. There's a built in swim step on each side, so there's not much room left on the transom itself above the current loops. If I mount new ones above the swim steps, the rope harness will be in the middle of the boarding area. The only other place seems to be to the sides (still on the stern) . Assuming I can get up in there, is the fiberglass thick enough there to support u-bolts -with a backing plate, of course- as tow points?
Sorry I have no idea how to get a photo up here.
