Here are the finished photos of the Sears 4.8 my daughter and I were working on last month. We have since started and completed another Eska. This one is a 7 HP from 1969. Photos coming.
ESKA 1969 7hp Model #1707 project. My daughter and I felt confident enough to under take a more serious outboard project since we managed to complete the Sears 4.8. The 7hp did not run and looked like it was buried for about 20 years. Here are a few pictures of the condition before we started on it.
ESKA 1969 7hp Model #1707 project. Here are a few pictures taken tonight of the motor after my daughter and I started putting it back together. Our box of gaskets arrived yesterday so it was like Christmas in October. I realize a lot of people don't agree with putting time or money into these little motors but the quality time with my daughter makes it worth it.
I see 2 things you might want to address, 1 the throttle lockout rod needs to be set in the right position and I would replace the screws that hold the tank/shroud on with new bolts, those old screws, unless you use some kind of gasket sealer for thread locker will back out and leave you stranded unable to start it in the middle of the pond, its a good idea to use something on the new ones as well....ask me how I know...LOL
here's a 3 hp, I find it hard to believe that this is from 76. Works but i wouldn't put my life on it. it will run full out until the tank runs dry, but does not like to change speeds a lot.
Hey, I posted on the forum last year on how a 7.5 gamefisher would push my 15.5 fiberglass boat http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=458954&p=3100737#post3100737 got a few naysayers. It can't plane the boat out but its not bad check out the youtube video. This gamefisher after putting a carb kit in and a impeller starts on the second pull, idles great and sips gas.. I bet it would move a light weight tinny really good.
7.5 clutch shift on a 14' 60" wide jon loaded with trolling motor batteries, food and gear a 7yr old and me at 240lb. kickin it on the Ohio river http://youtu.be/3SbStxqaVXA
same motor on a 12ft sea king, me, one battery and a couple anchors. I think it pushes the 14 ft faster than the tinny http://youtu.be/DLuzKsh1vy8
