The purpose of this thread is to unite some of us ESKA guys, for the purpose of exchanging repair notes etc. If you have an Old Eska or Eska varient (Ted Williams, Aqua Bug, barracuda, etc), feel free to show it off.

70's model Eska (Golden Jet 7)

- I just restored it and tried to go as OEM as possible with the paint color. She runs great, but is permanently in-gear due to the worn out clutch.

Golden jet' Gonna be a winter project, something is not right with the mid section/lower unit? it flops left and right & just sorta hangs there? this is the RAW before photo.

Nice! I can see the potential. I like the exposed power head as opposed to having a cowling.

My Eskas is a 7.5, year is a 1977, model is 14037b and I like to run it with the cowel off, much easer to keep an eye on and helps with cooling.

Here are some shots of my Sears branded 1977 Eska 15HP. I have it on my 13 foot tin boat. I have clocked it on my GPS at 34 Kph (21MPH) when I am alone (@ 220Lbs) in the boat with all my fishing equipment (5 rods, one big tackle box and a good sized cooler).

Changed the water pump impeller since this photo;

This was just before the first sea trials with my motor.

This is a shot that REALLY makes me miss the soft water!

Yes it has low hours. Runs perfect when warmed up. Kind of difficult to get started sometimes when cold. Also found that the small hole in jet at bottom of fuel bowl can become plugged easily and cause stalling at WOT.

I have 1973 Ted Williams Deluxe with F-N-R that I rebuilt this winter, it takes usally three pulls to start, my 1977 Eska will start and run on one pull if you can shove the choke in fast enough.

Also found that the small hole in jet at bottom of fuel bowl can become plugged easily and cause stalling at WOT

replace the fuel lines and install a inline filter, I'm using the yellow tinted 1/4" line now, they say its UV proof and better than the old clear fuel line which I never used because it would harden up and become worthless...I say all of this to say you don't want that little engine to run lean or hot at all.

I also found Cerifiedpartscorp.com to be my best friend when buy parts.

My two Eskas. 7.5hp model 217.585930 with full shift lower unit, and 3.0hp model 217.58543. The 7.5hp was brought back from the grave (replaced rusted out fuel tank, lower crank seal, lower unit seals, rebuilt carb, installed rebuilt electronic ignition trigger unit, and installed new OMC style ignition coil). The 3.0hp was in good shape when acquired, so it only needed a new lower crank seal, carb rebuild, points, condenser, and ignition coil.

Re: Post your Eska pictures here

I just purchased a 1969 4.8HP Sears Outboard. Motor runs great but needs work to look it's best. My 11 year old daughter and I have disassembled the motor, performed a thorough deep cleaning and degreasing with "Power Clean" from O-Reilly Auto Parts, this stuff is amazing and fixed the dents in the gas tank and lower housing. Attached are photos of the motor disassembled and ones with primer prior to recoating. We are using "Dupli-Color Self-Etching Primer" which works really well due to the build-up ability it has with several coats to hide imperfections. I have yet to find another 4.8 on the internet. Does anyone happen to know of someone who has or knows about this little 1-cylinder engine? I also need a replacement plastic cover that sits over the fly wheel. My 1962 Elgin(Mcculloch)

I gave one away a few years ago to my boat mechanic buddy, A few months ago I mentioned that I would like to see the prop to see what it would fit and he said if I wanted to dig it out of the pile I could have the whole thing back, I had left mine under my mom and dads house where we keep potatos in the winter, it stayed there for 30 years and found it one day by accident while looking the old farm over for lost memories, all I can remember is it started easy ran smooth but was a pain to replace the water pump.

Re: Post your Eska pictures here

Here are a few more progress pictures of what we did yesterday to our 4.8. The gas tank and lower housing were painted. I tried to match the original color but the color is identified as No.12 which means nothing to me so I purchased a Medium Green Pearl from O'Reilly Auto Parts. The color is almost identical. We also painted the shaft and propeller the same color as the lower housing unit keeping the gas tank white.

The Model Number is 217-58971 from Eska, Sears sold motor. Here is a web page that helped me to identify something about my motor. http://discount-marine-parts.com/ob_eska_sears.html. I have also attached a photo of a page from an old Eska manual which I found on the internet. In any case I have yet to find the cover that I need.

Here is the photo from the Eska manual for my 4.8 Model No.217-58971. I couldn't attach it to my previous thread due to the 5 photo limit.
